Right, we`ve all seen the server situation, (looking grim), I`m writing this to see who would like to donate monies to upgrade the server to dual core and all the rest, ( hope i don`t put your upset u by writing this mad, but something needs doing,(for the greater good)) Basically the server NEEDS upgrading and it`s not fair for mad to fork out the costs on his own, a decent system for it would probably cost £250 (approx), so thats a tenner each (thereabout`s). Not much for all the fun we`ve had and the brilliant community that is thriving off MADLAPS GBR.

The family paypal account isn't mine. I'll see if I can make a contribution but can't promise anything.

If I win the Rotax Grand Nationals kart race this year, I can get you $25,000 worth of greater good. How's that sound?

word up, DTM. £10 on its way Arrow Very Happy

This is a one-off appeal, it's no fault of Mad's that Nadeo moved the goalposts but it's still got to be faced.

alright, if your going to do this, I'll spec a server and price it and report the donations totals etc as it happens. Mid gracefully donated his old machine recently which sorted the web server and has helped me shuffle things round. I am loathed to use it as a game server though as it still has 'issues' and drains the national grid. I will return to this thread later with a detailed reply.

I'll see if i can borrow a credit card. I have normal bank card but not credit card and it is needed to use paypal.
When i was student i couldn't afford any "money-help" but with a salary, it's another story.

I'll donate as soon as possible. At the end of last year, I gave a small amount. A bunch of customers owe me right now otherwise I'd do it today. Even if any of you don't have much to give, a small amount is still appreciated and can go a long way.

Madman needs our help!!

And LaValle, if I were you I'd stick your winnings in your college fund or 401K Smile

Thanks for the idea guys, I don't want anyone to feel robbed, which is why I hesitated a bit, but I have found a solution.

I've been switching round my machines and discovered that linux on an AMD processor runs the server much more efficiently. One of my machines that has been giving trouble as a webserver (an AMD 2400) can run all three forever servers and the processor usage is back to a respectable 16% with over 30 racers.

So you understand the costs of mad laps though I estimate it must cost me at least £25 a month including the cost of hardware, bandwidth and electricity. All donations are therefore appreciated.

Current setup includes....
AMD 2400 PC running as the game server
2Ghz Pentium running the server controller which will be ported to linux ASAP
Shared Webserver using PHP & Mysql

Bandwidth....
upto 90GB and month for the game server
4GB a month for the forums with 250,000 hits a month Smile

so any donations are greatly appreciated.

The McCoy family donated £10, I trust this will continue the "Mad taking a dive in the 2nd lap" agreement Laughing

It might be worth putting a donations target for the month for running costs. It keeps everyone aware of whats needed and how far away from it we are.

Just a thought Wink

Not to mention Mr Mad hasn't had any real financial support for the running costs of Mad Laps thus far (unless you all give him and cash and don't say)

Should never make donations compulsory to play on a server but I always donated a bit of cash to my old clan because we had 100's of members, some donated and some didn't but you can't expect 3-4 people who hardly get to play the games for running around mucking about with servers to wear the running costs as well.

Certainly think if the community is made aware of the costs there will be financial support donated to cover most if not all of it Very Happy
