Dell Vostro 1500. Weighs in at £563 including VAT and delivery. Any good for the money?

I've had a look at the customisation page and it sucks that Dell expect more money for XP Pro than Vista Home Premium. That's about all I can find fault with though.

the dell website gives a nice error when i try and view it Smile

your not comparing like with like on the OS... XP PRO and Vista HOME.

I'll check the spec when you corect the link or I have time. What are you using the laptop for/expect from it? as this makes a massive difference to the spec required.

I did a Google search, and found this...

It has the same name, and im guessing its the furthest left one as all the others are over the price you specified.

Is that the one?

Right then, try this. The one on the right it is, found it in a Dell offers thing in a leftover Observer at work last night. Click on one year warranty when you've selected the package and there's the hardware.

That's a fair point Mad, and there's not really any point expecting XP Home on a business model. I'd probably just go for Vista HP. Failing that, something like that Novatech desktop you found Bunsen with XP would be nice. I'm basically looking for something that'll do a good job on TM and run some other more recent games I like the look of too (Bioshock'd probably be pushing it on that Laptop but I've no need for an Xbox 360).

http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/4x_vostro_1000?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd

you can customise with xp home etc and prices start from £169+vat
you can try the evalue code MMMUK4-N0410013 also though I'm not sure what it does Smile

Thanks Mad, I think I'll keep looking and try to find a decent desktop. Incidentally on that Novatech system the button saying 'add to basket' doesn't do anything, it seems there's no link to anywhere from it. A slightly faster processor would be nice on that system, but that's all I can fault with it really.

I play TM on an Asus F3J laptop and it runs beautifully - on nations and united. My ageing (circa 2003) desktop can't handle it at all (I should put a computer on it sometime). Asus's mid-price laptops seem pretty good and they come with a 2-year warranty which is fantastic - and the battery lasts 6 hours for general work and wifi surfing, although you need it on mains to get a decent gaming fps. I got mine here: http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/ (they still do XP too if that's your thing).
