I've found quite a nice looking system, Intel Quad 2.66, 2048MB mem, 320GB HD and a GeForce 8300GS 256MB graphics card. I know nothing about graphics cards ... does this one look OK to any of you experts? Thx in advance ...

Lol, never heard of it, google it and you basically get nothing, and its not on the site i usually use to get stuff, so unless anyone knows anything about it, your going into the unknown Shocked Shocked

Nice processor though, it will destroy everything you make it do Smile

Thanks, Steve. No, I couldn't find any online reviews or anything ... sometimes a decent MB can hide insufficiencies in other areas, though, so I'm wondering ... The next one up is a £900 with a 512MB card, but it's a bit out of my range Shocked

Or....you could buy that, then upgrade the graphics cards to something like this which is old(ish), but still very good, or if your feeling like you want to spend alot of money, then this would awesome with the processor - this would be very good Laughing

But changing the graphics yourself would cost extra, and might kill the warranty if it comes with one, because you've been changing things.

Hmmm, could be a good idea. I've just been to a site where they say that anything below x6xx is not suitable for gaming, which now makes me wonder what the rest of the PC is like ...

Thanks for the replies, Mad and Steve. I think I'll let this one pass and maybe look deeper into my pockets Sad

In fact, I'll get that water cooled 768 MB one. The missus will be fine with the remortgage thing, I'm sure, especially when I tell her how well isketch will run on it.

Laughing Laughing I knew you would go for that one Razz isketch Rolling Eyes And it would be just a tiny bit overkill for trackmania Rolling Eyes

The rest of the it seems fine, 2 gbs is enough if its going to have power hungry vista running, the processor is one of the best, and 320gb is enough.

That spec list sounds a bit like those Dell Vostro things I've been looking at recently.

Do you mean that in a good way or a bad way?

Well, I don't really know. You see, you can buy something fairly similar from Dell for around £330 inc. vat and delivery (seems like good value), but as it's a business-orientated system using a 512MB version of that card it's probably not top notch.

dell - top notch... you have to laugh. They still supply mice with balls as standard Smile

Does that mean an optical mouse is female......

You know what I mean Mad, but if it makes a huge amount of difference to you I'll edit my post and take out the 'probably'. And optical mice are standard on that system.

lol I know what you mean. For the average user dell are perfect.... cheap, well designed, prompt and with a bit of guidance they can be fine. I just think it funny that the average dell turns up with a mouse I could buy for 50p and a KB that is so stripped down it must cost less than £1. Smile

Of course they do provide dearer options...

long way down the line on this post but,

Quote:
GeForce 8300GS 256MB graphics card

i'm guessing it's a typo error, and is probably a 7300GS card, which just so happens to be what I have in my very modestly specced system, it performs very well for what I use it for ( only paid £40 for it about 10mth's back ) and in no way would it be regarded as a gamers card, for todays latest games.......... Sad
