is my game faulty?

me and my friend were playing trackmania nations last night,
and i don`t know whether it needs patching, but when i closed up to the car in front to slip stream it, he broke first and instead of bumping into him
my car just went through his, but this didn`t happen just the once
it happened every time and really spoiled the game as there was no skill element in overtaking.
then to make matters worse i was taking the inside line around a corner
which i had driven through 2 cars already to get to, a car overtook by litrally driving driving on the wall to get past me.

P.S Surely u could of found out somewhere else , not being harsh but lol a quick message in game you would of found out straight away!

Yep That's Trackmania you're running alright!
What little skill you need is all in doing the best lap you can, all your opponents are 'ghosts'. The passing manoeuvre you describe is a 'bash turn', you need to know when to do it cos most turns are quicker steering thru the traditional way.
