Zalman Reserator 1 Plus
AMD Athlon 64 FX60 (Toledo)
Corsair XMS 4GB (TWIN2048-3500LLPRO x2)
Two EVGA GeForce 7800GTX KO in SLI
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty
Two Western Digital 74GB Raptors in Raid 0
One Western Digital 500GB SATA2
Plextor PX-716 AL/SW
Mitsumi 3.5 floppy with card reader
Win XP Pro and Win Vista
25" Viewsonic
New vid cards if we ever actually see some DX10 games. TMU lags a bit in Stadium....can't figure out why. Frame rates drop into the forties sometimes. Only happens in Stadium. Odd. _________________ Signature goes here? |

ATI RADEON MOBILITY 9700 128MB

I bought bevor approx a year components for over 1300 Euro but to much of that were defect(RAM,DVD,Mainboard), because of that i returned all. I bought it at alternate a big online shop. I dont know if that known in GBR.? On my Laptop works TMN perfect, if TMU work i dont know. Because of that i dont buy it. |

TMU runs fine on my laptop; I'm sure they both look pretty much the same. I don't know if it is in my mind, but the FPS I get online with TMU is quite a bit lower, probably because of the lighting effects and dust rendering. I find TM very hard to play unless there's a pretty high refresh rate, harder than most games in fact. |

Most of the FPS problems are with Stadium only. Have you got this kind of disapoitment with Island Coast and Bay ? |

TMU runs fine until I try to play online for some reason.
All the single player races run fine.
My old PCs specs:
AMD 3000+ Socket 939
Abit AV8 3rd Eye
2gb PC3200 DDR
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Windows Vista Business
Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse
19" 1600x1200 Iiyama CRT monitor
22" Samsung 226BW 1680x1050 (Don't game on this, CRTs still look so much sharper than TN panels and S-IPS and PVA panels are too expensive )
550w Antec PSU
Case is a (huge) Antec Server case in matte black.
500GB Segate SATA Drive
120GB Western Digital IDE Drive
160GB Maxtor IDE Drive
Think i beat you on hard drive space, steve
I plan on getting a new PC within the next few months but with X38 and supposedly the Geforce 9 series coming in November it seems quite silly to upgrade right now. |

I do like it.... but I use it for extra real estate more than anything else. It's great for browsing the web and reading stuff, it's easier on the eyes, the fonts are larger due to the lower DPI but for gaming, the CRT wins.
1600x1200 over a smaller area gives a much crisper image than 1680x1050 over a much larger one because the pixels are smaller and closer together resulting in a much better DPI.
Not only that, TFT monitors still can't reproduce blacks and whites as well as a CRT, and in general (Especially with TN panels like all 22" monitors ) colour reproduction is worse on TFTs than CRTs.
Finally, although there is no ghosting on my 2ms TFT, all TFTs (at the moment) are limited to a 60hz refresh rate, unlike my CRT which does 85hz at 1600x1200, this means for every 2 frames displayed on the TFT, there are nearly 3 displayed on my CRT. For gaming this means I can potentially see something on the CRT 5ms earlier than I would on the TFT.
(or at least i do in games where my graphics card can render 85fps ) |

steve it makes all the difference....
I run a 4 year old AOC 15" TFT with a response time of 30ms that means at max I get a real 33fps even if my computer says otherwise. anything faster and my monitor simply can't keep up.
Modern TFT panels are much faster but the delay is still there. often around 16ms. A crt on the other hand will draw at the refresh rate set ie 75hz etc and you will see the image 30ms before I do on my old TFT. which makes a huge difference.
(Most monitors run at 60hz unless adjusted in windows. This gives me headaches as I can see flicker. a faster refresh rate is easier on the eyes.) |

i think that would be 'up to 30ms before TFT', many frames will sync just fine? _________________

The 30ms is the speed the pixels take to react and update. and yes I guess it's the slowest speed of the furthest pixel, but if it was reliably much faster then a faster speed would be quoted as for the newer screens.....
anyone else remember the original lcd panels on laptops, playing games meant that the picture would noticably smudge all the frames together.... thank goodness it's not quite as bad as that. |

I can't stand ghosting. I also have a 16ms LG Flatron 17" but never use it because even scrolling down a webpage makes all the text blurry.
And the response times listed for monitors are grey to grey, not black to white so the actual response time is much higher. My "2ms" samsung is really about 4ms black to white but that's still fast enough that ghosting is not noticeable.
As for 5ms making a difference, in a very minor way yes it can, when you also add up the response time of what your monitor is it can really make a difference though. e.g. 5ms from refresh rate, 10ms from response time. If you've ever played a FPS online you'll know there is a big difference between having a ping of 75ms and a ping of 90ms.
Then if you factor in the input lag of ~4ms a lot of TFT screens have and then the input lag from (wireless) mice/keyboards it all adds up. |
