Goto the miniserver and vote for the confused track......

This is called mix mapping and it was all TREDs fault.

Videos are available on youtube if you look them up.

If you want to know how to do it...

lol, yes, I was silly enough to mention it to mad, and to direct him towards some examples Razz

This is a vid showing the sorts of things that can be done

This is a thread from tmx with a load of screenshots

Other than that it's all a bit confusing really Razz If you want to have a go yourself, then be prepared for lots of frustrating fiddling while you try to get things to work Wink

The main problem with anything like this, is only you have them. Only trackside scenery has the ability to be modded and shared (not in TMN probably) in the normal way for modded tracks. To enable them to be used in an online game everyone elses standard block set wouldn't work. So you have the problem of explaining how to replace. It's too risky for most people even to switch a PC on, I wouldn't like to think of the difficulites with "back up this and that, and replace with this" support line, it's hard enough trying to explain how to get skins to work, and they're meant to do that! Very Happy

In Sunrise I looked into this after a few players on one particular snow modded Coast track (I might have a player's screenshot saved somewhere) reported parts of later Coast tracks that weren't there. It was obvious either they had a mismatch or corrpution of their own local files...and this opened new ideas....and chats with smelly old Bifta of OTMB too! Razz

What was more interesting to me was in Bay there was a little swimming pool block (it looked like a blue bit of glass that you could drive on) that had almost zero traction! Diving into the hex code rapidly broke the tile (what's now called "Mix mapping" I suppose) but I could never figure out what hex position and values controlled the traction level of the track parts, so I gave up. But a couple of days ago when with my throttle stuck on, I went flying off one track and landed on the Stadium's glass roof for the first time.....

Look look....lots of full zero traction glass!

Now to me altering the grip a certain track part is more intersting, than changing their XYZ placement and postioning them through each other. Think of those gridded corner parts, that aren't used much. If those had a traction level of ice...anyone for a new game of a 30 year old Atari Ice Race? Shocked

Of course the main problem with hex editing, is you have to suffer from extreme OCD to bother with it, for little to no return. Sad

I don't think the mix mapping can change the definition or control of the block, it simply moves it position. the track files are not big enough to have all the traction etc information in them. The mixing of blocks however can produce some very interesting results.

I believe that the grid rules still apply as the stadium itself is defined in local files.... I'll be happy to be proved wrong though. It is possible to remove sections of grass and put track inside inflatables..... goto work on these and perfect them....

Another tutorial for you Probably best if you do the other one first though, as this one kinda assumes you know the very basics already.

It's possible to build outside the stadium, as that twat Zooz and I think some other guy called Eva have proved. If you have TMU, search for Spectator Mode on TMX.

Had a quick go with RixMix this afternoon and it didn't work very well. I'll try a proper hex editor next time.

RixMix works, sort of, and it looks like it's much harder to do things with a hex editor. Here's a brief tutorial on TMX.

I tried the hex editor that hpbifta uses and deleted it after one minute because it couldn't find the block I was looking for, or a different one. RixMix makes it pretty easy as long as you can put up with a lot of buggering around getting it to work. Finding the blocks seems to be the biggest problem.

Remember if you're going to give RixMix a try that it's meant for TMU so if you have it it'll go to the tracks folder in your documents ready to open a TMU track.

Apologies for this massive bump but I'm trying to make a watersplash. The only way to do this is with block mixing, but my PC got a nasty virus off that tutorial page on the OTMB forum and as such I'm not really keen to go back there to find out how to go about doing it. Mad, AndSome, do either of you have the information from it saved or can you explain the process please?

Strange, the cached Google version was fine. Don't worry, I'll go through the tutorial and see what I can do.
