I was thinking is anyone interested in ripping off Reh's 2hours 40 race?

Obviously the track would need to be interesting and the field diverse and challenging but it might offer a bit of variety and spice to the whole mad laps experience. It also doesn't necessarily have to be 2hours 40 it could be 100 laps for instance the Mad Laps 100 an annual event for the regulars who make this server the anarchic experience it is.

Discuss Wink

If we make it a traditional Mad Laps track with the loops, the jumps and the whoa momma then yes I would prefer respawns. Very Happy

I'd be up for it. I think seeing as though the race would be so long maybe putting the track up for a few days before the event for extended practise would be a good idea, rather than a quick half an hour before the race (which some people not always can make it in time due to work etc).

I'd be up for it but it will very much depend on what day it takes place.

An annual 100 mad laps race would be cool, doesn't necessarily have to be le mans I guess Smile

Nah set the track building monkey's to work on making a replica of Le Man with loops and jumps as part of a track building competition pick the best and use that.

I've tried building a Le Mans before and it didn't go well...it's a bit too rectangular and long to get inside the construction site. So we could say make a track but with restrictions like there must be a long 'Mulsanne Straight' in it (which is the length of the construction site) and it must have a double chicane as the last corner like the real track.

Or if someone knows how to build out of construction site (eg. Swat) they could actually build it? (But this isn't very Mad Laps)

I remember DTM built a long course a while back, something like a five-minute lap, which would be suitable for an endurance race. Regular-length laps would soon induce psychosis in this event.

Yeah I didn't imagine it working with short laps, you'd lose track of time and your marbles by lap 35. Dunno about 5mins a lap but certainly using the fullest extent of the construction area and mixing up speed and a couple of technical sections. Dan is Prince of SpeedTech after all Very Happy

I know someone who can do that, who would be happy to contribute (good friends with him + i beta test his tracks). Guy called Matrixa, who worked out how to build out of the construction zone and also build stadium tracks in different environments.

Nice idea Stevie but the way I see it, Mad Laps event, Mad Laps builder. Leave it a few weeks and I'm sure someone can come up with a long but nutty track in that time (I'd certainly have a go...).

Yeah I thought about whether we could do this. Would require some serious co-ordination but the result would probably be great!

I'm sure something like Jawz and Matt were suggesting was tried when I was new here. It didn't sound like it was going well...

Not that it can't be done of course, and it'd be cool to try it.
