I do like Grid - in principle it's good fun, but it's affecting my head. I was quite surprised when I played Trackmania how little I cared about winning. It's just a friendly place to race and if you don't win, it's entirely your own fault.* The challenge never boiled over into rage, and I thought - I really did - that maybe I've grown up a bit. I can remember getting mightily annoyed at rushers in Age of Empires, the way they practised their one strategy and used it time and again until the game was no longer strategic but playing by rote, and I lost interest after countless rage-quits and strangled budgies. But no, I haven't grown up. It's just the placid Trackmania environment blurring my sensibilities. Every time someone so much as touches my front end in Grid, my eyes go red and I set myself on an inexorable path for revenge. Not just in that race. That tournament. That session. Sometimes days later. Like some spyware filter, my brain automatically flags up those who have wronged me, long after they (perhaps obliviously) sent me spinning exaggeratedly into a gravel trap. And I wait. Wait until they are right after me on the grid. And as soon as the race starts, I turn in on them, sending them flying into a wall and causing untold havoc in my wake. And I smile weakly.

the slower ones that use you as there nrakes are the ones that make me rage

i do find in "short" races ppl seem more aggresive and less willing to overtake cleanly

Yes, you're right. If you're not in the top five after the first corner you probably won't win on a 2-lapper, so those starting at the back of the grid have little to lose by taking a gamble and hoping a space opens up. I just try and take as wide a line as possible on corner 1 so I can sweep round without slowing down too much, even if means braking sharply on the apex.

Perhaps a nice feature for the patch would be a setting where the first sector was crash-proof and then collisions came on at the checkpoint. There would still be a nice spread because of the grid formation.

getting off the racing line and going on the inside can sometimes work better
cause some ppl dont or forget to brake and if ur going wide u mat get clipped

on nurbergring with the hairpin at the start i started 12 n chose to go slow and then cut inside the mess i came out 2nd 2 srecs behind the leader

yes, you're right about the inside line if you're right at the back of the grid.
And the outside route is hazardous if someone simply doesn't brake (although like I say, I try and carry most of my speed around the wider arc so I'm hopefully out of the firing line by the time they catch up). Somehow, I find the pile-up seems to happen just round the corner rather than at the end of the straight, probably because people are scrambling to get back on the racing line and don't have a wide enough field of vision to see other cars.

When I'm starting near the back I always take it easy cos you can usually make up 2 or 3 places by avoiding a shunt. Then even if you don't make up the places you'll get a finish and start the next race nearer to pole. There's a lot to be said for sitting back and watching the mayhem. Even those who scrape through the melee might pick a bit of damage.

i play mostly on demolition derby medium and touring cars short

demolition derby i'll crash, ram, smash, drive in reverse, target trash talkers, wait for people, anything in fact

touring cars i'll try and stay away from trouble, the first corners definatley the worst, especially if theres a few who are sneaky/stupid. you can view before you race if the sessions on collisions on or off. i've been on a few times though where everyones up for a clean race and its great. usually though its on a private session (when Dans playing nice Laughing )
