For the past day or two I've not been able to join a server. My net connection is fine, I can access TNM, download the ladder, find the list of available servers and change my profile, but as soon as I try to actually join a server it just says:

Contacting server ...
Abort

as per usual, but just stays there for eternity. It's not jus ML, it's any server. It's not a crash - the abort button still works. Weirder still, it happens on TMU too.

Has anyone else been having this problem? Or could anyone suggest a remedy?

I'm getting exactly the same thing Bunsen, and it happens on United as well. How to remedy it though, I've no idea.

Hi DaCheese. It's sort of reassuring that someone else is having the problem, as I can stop messing around with my settings! That said, the servers certainly seem populated so it can't be universal. I think my problem started on Sunday. Did yours? It's a pain in the ass, anyway Sad

I got this a little while ago. I just rebooted and it was fine.

Also, bunsen, no one can connect to your server Laughing Probably a controller or firewall issue. I know it doesnt narrow it down much but....

Oops! Didn't know that was still up there ... I was minimized. I just launched it to see if t worked. I've never managed to set up a server, mind you ... something to do with my NATS which is beyond my comprehension.

That reminds me. Not only can I not connect to other servers, I was trying to locally host a session and nobody joined. I could have scared everybody off of course, but a fellow Racer For Shropshire (one of 3 including myself Wink ) told me that he couldn't connect to the server.

When did it start? I don't really know Bunsen. It was definitely before Sunday, because connecting to ML has been tricky for ages and I don't race in many other places. Nice idea Steve but I keep reconnecting my computer to no avail, so I doubt a restart'll help.

It would seem I can't do any online racing at all.

Hmm. I think this may be a job for the main TM-Forum. I'll start a thread on there, see what replies we get.

I know its highly unlikely that both of you have changed your firewall/ or something on your computer on the same day....but have you??

Creating a server is alot more complex than just clicking Create Server and put in the name Wink

That's just it ... I didn't change anything. I was merrily playing on Sunday and I left one server, tried to join another one and it just didn't work. Thanks for your help BTW steve.

Cheese, are you on Tiscali? I am, and on the TM forum people seem to mention the ISP as a possible reason.

Ah, now that's a story. About a year ago before the TM bug bit me, we had Tiscali dial-up. Decided to get broadband. Tiscali messed us around for a while, so now we're with eclipse. Connected us in one week Very Happy .

So you're half right. How the hell did you find that out though anyway?

I've been on Tiscali for years. I used to be on LineOne (we're going back to about 2003 now) and it got taken over by Tiscali. Apart from their lamentable customer helpline I've never had any problems with them and the speed is always right at the limit when I test it. What's wrong with Tiscali? I should know!

Oh, right. I see. Not me, Bunsen.

Hang on. How did you find out Bunsen's ISP?

It's a bit strange that you can post here but not join the server. This is the same server after all so the only difference is the port numbers and the central TM server.

Sometimes the central TM servers screw up.... and these are localised somehow, and sometimes ISP's block ports or access to certain protocols etc the game uses Secure sockets on those particular port numbers.

The other reason maybe my router........ we had it a few weeks ago with my old router and a reboot fixed it. I will reboot in the morning as the server is currently heaving.

EDIT
Darn you said it was not just mad laps.......
try rebooting your routers....... just an idea.

Good luck.

Thanks Mad, I might try that. It's not working on either PC so it is looking like the router is keeping quiet. I might reset the factory settings. I'll make it Joy Division instead of New Order.

In Advanced > Settings, what should Force Server Addr say? I have 192.186.1.1.[/img]

Typical. Plenty of racing going on and I'm completely unable to join in.

Also, I don't have a router, so I can't try resetting it. This is going to be an interesting problem to solve...
