In the run-up to the Team Championship Season 4 I have dropped many hints about a Solo Championship and after a dry run last Saturday in which we trialled Cup Mode I think we can get it under way this coming Saturday 23rd August.
In the format trial DaMadman tweaked settings which should result in a 30-45 minute duration event (depending on the size and quality of the field) and if any of you are unfamiliar with Cup Mode - here's how it runs.
I will select (taking suggestions on board) a dozen or more tracks which will reflect the full spectrum of racing styles (techy, speed, mini etc). Competitors will then have two warmups per track before setting off on five Rounds-style races before the track rotates through the list and we continue with the warm-ups, five Rounds, rotate, etc etc. Points are awarded at the end of every Round until a player reaches 100 Points when he/she will become a Finallist - the status you require to win overall. To achieve this you must simply win a round. Meanwhile you've stopped scoring Points in the Rounds and other racers are achieving 100 Points, becoming Finallists and able to win overall, so no pressure Wink. Three winning Finallists fill the Podium places and it's Game Over. It might seem a little complicated but all you've got to do is get stuck in and drive and the format will become crystal-clear as the event happens.
30 Table points for an overall win, 20 for 2nd, 10 points for 3rd. Getting on the Podium is difficult, but throws up surprising results as Finallists 'choke' and some dude up for Silver watches late qualifiers overtake and push him down to 4th bcos of his inability to 'close it out', perhaps as tracks rotate to styles he does not prosper on. *sniff yes folks that loser was me Embarassed . This format should give us a series Champion worthy of the title.
The whole series will run one week behind the Team Championship but on Saturday nights at 20.00 UK Local Time.
so what do you think Question

nope, one lap + five rounds per track. Unless you mean are they A2Bs, no they aren't. Tracks are from the Pro server's tracklist.

Think thats what he meant. Great idea Mid/etc, allows the people who didn't want to sign up to the team GP's to get involved.

was a lot of FUN, personally i would like to see some of the old 30 to 40 secs rounds tracks being used as they used to bring up some surprise winners which could bring some of the better players in line with the poorer ones.

Cup mode on Saturday was brilliant. The win was easily taken by Swat, leaving a three way battle for the remaining podium positions between Mid (who was next to go finalist), myself and AndSome. The pressure you're under when you reach the finalist stage is huge...

A2Bs? Fine by me, as long as Lightning Roller makes an appearance. Smile Joke.

I've been thinking about the Points structure and it seems fair and more groovy if all Finallists off the Podium score 5 Points in the Table.

the format settings don't allow multiple laps, so A2Bs don't disrupt the flow in this case. We have some totally whack ones from previous challenges Smile

"Totally whack" since when did you become P diddly. Shocked

I have to agree some of the tracks from the tuesday night racing club were straight up banging, me and my crew were down for that man.

Saturday was a success from my pov, the Podium went 1st Bboy, 2nd Swat, 3rd The King with no further Finallists.
Instead of keeping it a fixed period event I wonder how you all feel about running every week? I can fix a tag under member's forum names to read Ace of Race 30Points however many points you've scored in total. Maybe it will encourage greater forum use Wink
