I have a 1995 Vauxhall Astra 1.7TD Isuzu, I've changed the glow plugs, glow plug relay and fuel filter and i'm still having the same problem.
I start the car (which sometimes takes 20 secs or more of turning over) and head down the road to work, i'll get maybe to the 2nd or 3rd junction and the car stalls on me, I turn her over and she'll start (just as stubbornly) and she'll go for some distance where it'll possibly stall again...
I've just thought that it could be a carbon build up seeing as the car's only been doing short trips so i've just blasted the hell out of it at 100mph for 15 miles, and at low revs she's been ticking over fine but i'll only find this out tomorrow morning when she's cold (and possibly make me late for work, again!!)
This is getting very annoying and I hope someone on here can help me out...

My mate just bought one, was over-heating due to thermostat in the engine not working properly, try running it with the internal fan on full `fan` and full `heat`, also redex (injector cleaner) is good, also, check all hoses on the induction side are tight and not split _________________ Never underestimate the power of stupidity. |

Thanks for your input dan but it's no an injection, just a normal Turbo Diesel, and it's no got a heat problem which would mean i'd have to run the internal fans to take the heat away from the engine.
The problem i believe would be a fuel delivery problem as it's no ticking over right at idle but runs ok when driving, but i'm no mechanic lol and trying to find out the problem without going to a garage as it's a 95 Astra and i'm really no wanting to spend any money on it if i have to....

any scummy residue on the inside of the coolant reservoir?
is your oil contaminated i.e. a chocolatey emulsion?
I've had that kind of running on bangers with knacked head gaskets (they do go on Astras, usu after overheating from failure of the thermostat). _________________

bad luck m8, my big ends gone, i need a new engine, bah
P.s. The I stands for INTERCOOLER as all diesels are injection to balance the fuel, there obviously is no carb to mix fuel air, diesel ignites on compression, not, a spark as petrol engines do _________________ Never underestimate the power of stupidity. |

Well i've finally sussed out what he broblem was.
The copper pipe leading off the rubber fuel pipe from the fuel filter had snapped, fuel was trickling in but getting worse to the point it just wouldn't run (obviously lol), replaced the pipe and away she went.
Better taking time to find out a problem that cost me nothing to fix than put it to a garage and pay over £200 to rectify, especially when i only paid £300 for the car !!!
