Most of this topic is covered in the 'Donate' thread, so I'll spare Belial's blushes by avoiding the story of exactly how come we have it, but there's a new Mad Laps server and it's professionally hosted and seviced by techbots!
Last night it debuted with a mixed bunch ot tracks from Classics to A2B to New Submissions from our team of trackbuilders, running in Rounds mode (limit 10pts) in order to avoid the glitchy patch some of us installed to cure Laps mode's CP issues. Rounds mode has its own faults for our purposes but DaMadman is on the trail of a cure for the absence of Lap Recs which may also limit all the Sector Recs it's awarding (about twelve for our tracks, though it would fill the screen if we ran 'old' GP 6).
Laps and Classic were barred from use while we attempted Destruction Testing on the new baby and we'd still like to give it the toughest workout, so please join in the session when you can and we'll see how many ppl we can squeeze into the nominal 32 slots.
Have Fun and give us your feedback. _________________

It moved from atlanta to amsterdam overnight. Caused me a massive headache this morning trying to rejig it and set it up but now its working and we got 36 on at one point... maybe more. Very smooth too. |

Very true, I got 7+ seconds late one time and 2+ regularly. Still was very nice though to have so many people on one server!
Seeing how many people it can hold, will this server be used for GP's? |

Two things make the late starts worse....
Due to it being a new server your machine will recache the tracks. This will improve as people return.
Always check your computers processes. xfire, mediaplayer, msn, virus checkers, antispyware, spyware anything can make you latestart. If it's really bad then reboot and try again. |

With a new computer, i've no late start and no lag on the server (playing in PC3 all high).
I wasn't there when more than 30 peeps were racing, but still... it helps a lot to have competitive hardware too.
Great experience of racing there Mad. |

I'm on a new system too, but when there were 25+ people on I late started every race only by about 3 or 4 secs |

lol, i callvoted to kick someone as they were being annoying, and it worked without anyone having to vote. Then I wondered whether it worked with banning...it did..

it seems a quite a bunch of people are having trouble with late starting on the server. sunday night i was on for about 5 hours without a single late start, while last night i was on with 30+ people and late started every race by 11+ seconds. I came on later when there was 10ish on and had no problems.
I don't whether there is a fix, but its not nice coming on to RACE and starting 15secs behind, if it keeps doing this when alot of people are on then i'll probably lose interest very quickly and start going on other servers (i was actually enjoying the nadeo servers last night) |

Is that a threat, because nobody makes you race here mate if you don't enjoy it theres not much anyone can do _________________

Actually, the UF1R server (hosted by Roy (from Australia ) kinda new RFR but you can drift there) kept making me late start by 15 seconds, but turns out, after 5 laps it's much closer then _________________

This only seems to have been a problem since all the Classic tracks were dumped wholesale into the mix, am i right?
Just a hunch, but have the late starters correctly configured the Network Upload/Download options in the first box of the Configuration panel? Just don't max it out - like Ventrilo these datastreams work smoothly if the bandwidth is choked to the minimum necessary. For example mine are clocked at 350kbps UP and 3500kbps DOWN even though my connection is much faster. _________________
