do any of you guys race with opponents or chat off?

having chat off improves concentration (especially when drunks like belial start shouting and distract you), i've crashed many a time from looking at what someone has wrote. i find sometimes its better with opponents off too, as having someones car buzzing around yours is also a bit distracting.

i havnt had either on as of recent times as i cant be bothered pressing the keys, lol

No
If you're not going to enjoy a bit of banter or race agaist other cars then you may as well race offline.

Most of the time (concerning long races like Le Mans) i begin the race with Chat on but opponments off (avoiding a lot of confusion), and then, after a few laps, it's the inverse. I turn off chat to not be too distracted and i turn opponments on to keep the race sensation. Wink

I'm with slowth on this one, its not really a racing game if you can't see anyone else.

I leave the chat on for the banter too, always made me laugh knowing CRJ would be trying to race while we typed stuff to distract him. Razz

Opponents Off is useful in Time Attack mode on busy servers, but racing with m8s on Mad Laps is more fun with them On.
Admins need Chat On, so no Zen bubble for me.

I keep everything on, only sometimes when I'm having bad connection and huge lag I turn opponents off during the start, then wait one or two laps and put em back on, so I won't have 20+ cars on my screen at once

I do usually have opponents off at the start of the race, as its quite crowded there on the first few corners, but once everybody starts to space out I stick them back on again.

I see what you mean about the chat slowth, a good banter is good but I tend to 'banter' between races or when I crash out. So when I'm driving I don't chat because well..i'm driving lol (and looking at what other people say distracts me, unless its someone like bboy or steve saying 'oh damn i'm out')

i kept both on for the two gps i did early season, but there was so much lag the other cars didnt move, they just jumped around the track, appearing and disappearing around me.

I'd love to keep the opponents on all the time, even though I'm guilty of getting tunnel vision and chasing down the car rather than racing the track, but some tracks have such scenery overkill going on that I have to kill the cars to save FPS.

Yesterday I dropped my opponents from 10 to 6 - any less and you may as well turn it off anyway. It's down to the tracks for me. Too much junk on some of them.

So I keep them on, until I need to toggle cars off with my shoulder button.

This goes for me as well, I'm getting faster if I have a fast enemy I can see in front of me. As for the chat...I'd race offline rather than turning it off, all the crashs due to looking at what someone wrote are worth it, though if you're crashing because someone wrote something, you got a nice excuse Razz

You're not getting the Mad Laps experience if you're not having a close race with another regular and having a good laugh at what everyone says after crashing, offputting as it may be at times.

yep everything on for me! There's no point racing people if you can't see them. and its always amusing to have chat on...don't understand how it distracts you in a race...u should be looking at the track Razz

Both on usually, although I've found I drive smoother with opponents off less pressure?)

I figure I crash plenty with chat on or off Cool

i turned avatars off but left the rest on because it doesn't distract me and even if it does, i'm not freaking out if i don't win one race^^

Surveillance is the only track I turn opponents off on, I can manage on the others.
