im not sure why we are discussing the points system (for races) as if you ask me the system does 2 important jobs very well

Rewarding success

And

Rewarding consistancy

i guess you might be right...
the best way to do the tier system would be giving Tier 1 more points than Tier 2. and Tier 2 more points than Tier 3.
this giving people a reason to want to be in a higher tier to get more points for their team. This makes things complicated. I guess alot of it depends on who (or what) is going to do the scores.

I don't mind doing the scores as long as I understand it lol

Even if we were to have the tier system (quote) :

1. t1 Moldo (10pts)
2. t1 bboy (8pts)
3. t2 c3b (10pts) - for t2
4. t1 Hotswat (6pts)
5. t3 Good Homer (10pts) - for t3
6. t2 spanky mccoy (8pts) - for t2
7. t1 Steve (4pts)

Would this put Homer above Swat on the scoreboard? No offence to Homer, but that's just rubbish lol

No, it would give Homer 10 points in the tier 2 championship. All 3 tiers would race together, but there is 3 different championship tables running at the same time. So if Homer were to finish above Swat, he wouldn't be above Swat in the championship because they are in completely different tiers, and are not racing eachother. (so homer might get more points than swat but the points would only count towards his own tiers league, and swats points would count towards his tiers league).

I'm worried its getting a bit too complicated..

or... Homer is above Swat in the Championship, as a by-product of the tier system is a broadbrush handicapping system? This is not so ridiculous as suggested 'cos this place could do with a few swollen egos being pricked Idea

Btw ..I like the tier system but that`s maybe because of Ste-Units nice example(me finishing 1st in tier 2) Razz ..No seriously, it does sound like a good idea but like someone pointed out it is a whole lot to keep track of for the person keeping the scores Confused

As I'm not fully certain that i'l be participating this season, if someone were to take a screen of the results from both races each weekend and send them to me then i'd do it. Just gotta get a couple spreadsheets sorted etc..

I guess mad would be the only candidate, i think a seeding system split into 3 would work.

24 players on a time attack laptrack and then divide it with the 8 bests, 8 intermediates and last 8 ?
But to be honnest, after what Voices said, i'm not sure the tier system would be so good... i don't know.

Or maybe divide the players in 3 tiers category, yes, but this having not influence on the scoring system...

it's not that complicated. it's kinda like explaining step by step how to make a cup of tea (move hand down...pick up kettle...move hand upwards..etc.)
but yes, that was what i was hoping for.
it has the handicap in the sense that the slower players in the team can gain valueble points for their team. otherwise, it can leave some players feeling a bit worthless, the faster players carrying the team on their shoulders. this way, every1 has an equal opportunity to win for their team.
the scores should probably be done on three tables though...
podium = winners of each tier.
(in answer to voices point, each tier is divided by skill, making it obvious who is the most successful, kind of like the winner of the premiership is better than the winner of the championship in football.)

if we have a tier system why aren't we having different races then, as the idea is that the racers in the top tier race against each other and so on.

if we all race together this will become VERY confusing especially in races where the gap between the tiers are close

problems i perdict will happen in making decision mid race

if you are many places behind the person in the tier above you will not know how far behind them you are

if your tier is not leading the race it would be very difficult to know how far behind you are from your tiers leader...... or perhaps if you are winning at all!!!!

Simple solution... dont worry about the positions during the race, just go as fast as possible until you cross the finish line.... the work out where you are. Wink

Other solution; bring back qualifying and leave everything else as it is. I got confused ages ago...

Think the idea of the thread was to come up with possible changes to the format. Granted you believe there is nothing wrong with the way it all works but plenty of suggestions are to the contrary. It might be better if you highlight what is so good about the current format that it doesn't need to be changed, then that might get your point across to people who are looking to make changes. I personally don't think the tier system will work within one race, handicapping can't work in this game, it does work in real racing but that is because you physically weigh the most succesful drivers car down.

Personally speaking there are several things I think that "are broke", the time does it have to be saturday evenings. The points dished out shouldn't go further down than 10th, yes finishing is an achievement but since everyone can restart if they turtle its not the achievement it used to be. No more than 3 members to a team so privateers are not counted together which caused the Bentley situation in season 3. If you can't take part you don't get a sub, your team goes without.
