A long long time ago, whilst trying to help mad lappers with gaming issues, I sent a message to tiscali..... today I received a reply (5 weeks later) and please notice that they couldn't be bothered to read my name, let alone the question about broadband blocking and service provision..... To anyone using tiscali/eclipse services, you have been warned.

I have several clients who connect to my servers accross the internet and are supplied by you for their broadband services. Unfortunately, these clients seem to have a unique connection problem. Communications between themselves and the server are great 80% of the time and then seemingly blocked for random periods lasting up to several days. It often appears that the blocking starts some time mid morning and stops around midnight, though it's hard to say exactly when this happens as I am relying on my customers feedback and experiences. The only other ISP where this problem seems to occur is eclipse, with which I am told you have links.

We have experimented in adjusting the ports with no success. None of my clients have had any recent communications about limited service or shaping.

Is their anything in your system / or usage policies that could be affecting my clients in this way?

Thank you

Tim

Dear Mr xx ,

We apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail and regret any inconvenience it may have caused you.

As we understand you are experiencing some issues with your broadband

We have checked your details it shows us that there are no issues from Tiscali Server.

Tiscali does not support networking, so won't be able to check its details.

Hence requesting you to contact a computer technician to resolve your issue.

Regards,

Tiscali Technical Support

Ha ha! Exxxxxactly the same thing happened to me. I complained on 6 Feb and only got a reply yesterday. (In fact they replied 4 times yesterday.)
The response was, as expected, utterly useless and just told me to do what I have already done several times. I am leaving!

Hmm let me think. Yes, I think I'll downgrade it.

That PlusNet recommendation is looking ever more tempting. It won a customer satisfaction poll last week, and it has been taken over by BT since I last used it and left in disgust (OK, it was years ago). I'm just worried about downtime. It just kills my business and I can ill afford it ...

I would, know two people who got rough treatment off Tiscali.

Much more competitive market now you can get a better deal.

I know but I just love their TV adverts. They suck me in, man.

The main thing is, their customer service is so atrociously bad, it's a wonder they get away with it. I don't think I've ever had anything remotely useful from them. The helpline costs a bomb just so you can sit and listen whille ... they .... go .... though .... a .... list .... that .... starts ... with .... " ... Have ... you .... bought ... a .... compu ... ter ... ? ..." And they send me an email every month telling me I have earned "rewards" which consist of the kind of electronics crap that newsagents sell, and P&P is £4... I did once get PC Scrabble for free (+£4 P£P) and it was just a CD! No box or instructions! What am I doing?

bunsen, before you switch find out your monthly usage..... it's very critical especially with plus net who don't have any high usage policies....and do throttle the connection if it looks like your going to hit it.
There network reliaility over the last few years has been spotless... guess they sorted out the previous grumbles.

BT simply charge you 30p a GB for every GB over the limit...etc etc
