a much asked question is who is the stig?
can anyone shed any light on this
i did some reading today and it seems like there could be more than one
which indicates that maybe one stig has commitments possibly in a team at the moment
ben collins is a possible candidate so far but anyone else i dont know
what you guys think |

i think that there is more than one. here what i think,
they have a stig for the racing the main stig but they also have just some normal dude that dresses up for when hes doing things like the standing there in the studio. as to who the stig is i dont know. ym sis says hammilton but i dont think so and after what he did on the track when he was on the show it just ruled him out for me. i have heard damon hill a few times, he is the right shape of the stig and is a good driver. i dont know how they keep it from everyone. with the amount of people they have there each week, and for him not to have been seen. its strange |

They would definetely get a person, probably in the porduction of the show, to play the Stig when they do things like the race across London.
I think the racing Stig is probably a test driver(s), or a retired racing driver. I dont think current drivers wouldnt have enough time to do it.
And Moldo, yes, the Stig is from Top Gear, and you should watch it more often. The best programme on T.V. atm. But i wouldnt know much about the others as Top Gear is about the only programme i watch |

Perry McCarthy was the Black Stig, but got booted off for letting slip that it was him in his autobiography.
Russ Swift has said that there are several Stigs. I think you're all probably right about there being some random guy who does the more acting-based side and one or more drivers (Ben Collins is a popular suggestion). Kovalainen was indeed the Stig who drove the Renault F1 car, and the Stig who drove that snowmobile down the ski jump was apparently some Scandinavian mentalist who races them all the time.
In all honesty though, does it matter? It's much more entertaining having the three presenters treat the Stig like a non-human driver. "Some say that he knows two facts about ducks...and both of them are wrong. And if he was getting divorced from Paul McCartney, he'd keep his stupid, whining mouth shut. All we know is...he's called the Stig." _________________

I used to be The Stig but I stuffed a Koenigsegg into a tyre wall when I was pissed and they fired me
There isn't one actual Stig they use different guys depending on what they're doing, like it was said earlier the Renault F1 car used their own driver. The 24 hour race that was just on was probably a different driver so my mate says anyway _________________

your right were your going but not spot on
the renault f1 test was done by the stig not by someone from renault
the different stigs are used just for filming ie in studios or like the one they did across london but all the driving is done by the one stig
stig is a race driver and has vast amount of experience so they dont need any stand in drivers ie for f1 due to the guy being an actuall race driver
if any1 wants his name let me know and ill only send it you by pm due to not spoiling it for everyone |

I was thinking about this the other day...
Every week when they have the star in a reasonably priced car in, he/she nearly always says something along the lines of "Well, The Stig did say not to brake too late". Doesn't this indicate that The Stig has had vocal conversations with these people?! If he were somebody very famous, somebody would have worked him out, and somebody would have spilled the beans, even if Top Gear made them all sign some sort of confidentiality agreement...so maybe it's just somebody from the amateur racing circuit with a lot of spare time. |
