since satuarday its gone into epic freezing fits. usually if im online gaming or web browsing)
my brother claims the same thing is ahppening to him also since sataurday, but his isnt as frequent as mine.

when it freezes, i cant do anything apart from reboot.
when in a game the sound will go blahblahlbah repititve, like a crazed techno song. and mouse dont work

i noticed on sataurday my green led light was flasshing constantly, that has been resolved. but the freezing is persisting

ive updated drivers, ive done numerous virus scans and spyware scans. problem is still exisiting.

----------
if issue is still hapening come weekend gonna try re writting windows. - if still existing gonna wipe everything. if still existing ill know its an hardware issue.

----
im on a network aswell if anyone asks refering to brother simular issue - we also have the same specs and computers were setup on the same day.

also our internet has been somewhat awful these last few days. - for browsing and gaming. but its been awful for gaming before and seems part and parcel with it.

it does seem odd that you're both suffering, JawZ... I have heard of a Worm that installs in router firmware which would give you similar symptoms. Have a look at the excellent PCAdvisor magazine webby for help and knowledge, it's all over my head Arrow

a way to check your task manager issues is google, whats the last program you installed??? alcahol 120 did it to me once, but if its been installed a while?? like i say google everything,

also, start>run>msconfig>startup. then shut off all programs which are unnessesery on boot up, if that doesn`t work, try safe mode and see if it still happens

Identical more or less to my computer woes.

Still not fixed.

I'd just say save what you want to keep someplace and fully reinstall windows, that way you know whther its software/hardware

Only one error in your HiJack log Jawz...

Quote:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: cmmmgr - cmmmgr.dll (file missing)

And before everyone searches for this, the spelling of this depends on whichever version of Winblows you are using. Some have CMMGR (2 M's) some have 3 M's, and we all have different connection hardware/software too.

CMM is Winblows own....hushed silence....connection Manager! Yes, it's supposedly the thing that behind the scenes handles your internet connections (that and a hundred thousand other files we collectively call Windblows) although only Bill "the demon waster of hell" Gates could confirm if this is the case. Speakers aren't to blame as these are just....well...speakers, unless they're USB, when they become Human Interface Ear Destroyers.

Whether this is to blame for your woes or not, I can't say. But the fact is it's generating an error at the same time as you're having connection problems. Might just be a coincidence...might be fate, might never have been working, but it's sticking it's hand up and waving at the moment.

It is possible that without the file (whether this has never existed, been lost, corrupted, or gone on holiday to the Algarve) you do get a Windows log on, but being a Windows service that it's retried over and over and over, and after enough tries and time, it may finally be flagged as a failure, and then your PC lurches into a world of problems.

This would likely be impossible, as the error says the file is missing. If anything I'd try to copy the file into the relevant Windows folder first, and see if the error and problem lessened.

Of the rest of the new HJ enties, I don't tend to tell people to just delete things. After all you use them and install them, who am I to judge they're rubbish or useless. It's your PC and software choice. For instance the "yahoo toolbar" : You can find people saying this is spyware or a security risk (if that were the criteria Winblows is the world's biggest security and virus threat ever imagined!) but if you use it, why should you be told to delete it? it's certainly not in charge of connections...so removing it will probably have no impact on the issue.

Likewise I can't say delete an entry related to an Apple iPAP player. What's the betting after doing this you'd find something going wrong with either the iPAP software or iTwiTs or something similar? You use it? Keep it. And why would this have any impact on dropped connections, or a frozen OS? This seems like someone advising based on their own personal preferences, and does not say to me that it would logically be related to a connection problem. So removal of an iPAP entry should not help the issue, but could possibly add some new unrelated problems.

Of the rest, this is generating the same error as the Connection Manager :

Quote:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msasvc.exe (file missing)

Now this is a problem....and if the other one was waving a hand for attention, this one is waving a large and very red flag. "msasvc.exe" has been detailed on several virus sites as a Trojan/Back door infection, but it's also a legit Windows system file. But again, it's missing. So whether you were infected, the payload was delivered, and you're now left with a wobbly OS, or whether it was never an infection (hard to check when the file is missing) and it's just another lost system file....who could say.

It's always possible especially if you have to do a hardware power down (lots are you are trying GRiD these days!) or system reset, that system files can become corrupted. However, I'd try to find these missing files and re-install them first, but this is entirely in the skill of the user. What would happen if you found these files on another computer, and put them on your PC but the files were the wrong version (as your files are missing you can't compare), and you ended up with an OS that wouldn't start up? It's very easy to break an OS when you're messing about with it's core system files. So you'd have to ask yourself, if you were presented with an OS that was much worse after messing about, could you start up with a bootable DOS system disk or slave your drive in another PC to find those files and remove them to get back to where you were before? If not, then I'd advise not to fiddle that deeply.

i did few things
update few drivers, update flash and shockwave, reinstalled firefox 2

but i dont see how they would of had any effect lol

as for the missing file, i wont go routng for it. but there has been a virus that wiped that system file out for me.

Which makes both the Yahoo Toolbar and iPAP entries seem all the more ominous. For anyone who's never used an application to have it appear in the registry is a very ominous sign and indicative of viral work, as entires don't appear by magic. This is especially obvious if it's software or an application that has garnered a multitude of buffoons into using and buying. Where better and safer place to hide secret infection and viral codes than disguised as entries many users will be using? Tricky, in a red flag sort of a way.

Updating drivers of course has a chance that corrupted of lost drivers will be replaced, or overwritten, and has as good a chance as any as working. but it's fine that things have gotten back to normal...

Now onto Race Driver GRiD, or to give it it's real name Colin McRae DiRT (but now on a track). I've never seen such a piece of crash worthy gaming before. It's flying on a wing and a prayer if you decide to change any of the detail options, and it's infamous in the gaming world as then possibly locking up the PC, crashing the game, then corrupting OS files, or turning a previously working game into a few minutes/hours/days of black screen. Oh it can be visually impressive, but so can Britney Spears. All over the top gloss and glamour, but it's a very thin layer of paint, with a nutjob waiting to blow up just under the surface! During my few minutes setting up DiRT (and then weeks of playing), I can guess I got about 7 crashes, lock ups, and frozen systems, before I got it running properly with the correct detail and resolution options. Then when I changed graphics cards, it was deja vue, and it all had to be crashed through again, I gave up on it for a couple of months after some system files corrupted during one hardware reset. When the RD GRiD demo arrived recently, it was obvious all the way from top to bottom after 3 crashes, and frozen PC's it's the same game engine (but with less details) and because "LodeFarters" can't use Colin McRae for cashing in on the American console market now, they've just given it a new game name, and hardly touched any of the problems CM DiRT had.
