Ah yes, the old alt F4 trick. Somebody caught me out with this on my first GP, can't remember who. I asked how to change who I'm watching on spectate. Incidentally, is there a way to change that?

I've got my cache set to 2 gigs Razz and more than half of that is full Smile Remember, the cache is also where the downloaded mods go, and they can be quite large at times...

Tidy up them by type of file (style ?) zip, loc, and so on.
You can delete all (by pressing "Ctrl A" to select all and then "delete") or delete only what is useless or can be easily found (pictures, bik files, loc files,...)

Zip files begining by "Stadium" are mods, begining by "vehicle" are Cars and "Advertisement" are only useless things Wink

But i repeat, you can delete everything, when you'll play online, it will restart download what you are racing with (other cars, Avatars, advert pannel, mods when you're racing with mods, and so on).

hehe he didnt mean delete the cache folder, just its contents.

I've also found a thread that says to set the cache in game to a larger figure and then copy the default.settings.gbx file accross to the server to raise it's cache. so we'll see how it goes tommorrow.

if each car is 3 mb and the cache also includes avatars and signs 200MB is not a lot for 220 tracks Smile so its now 2GB. That should do it.

lol mid, not the folder, just its contents as mad and pep pointed out.

Also, if you delete your cache, some of the signs galahad and galt used wont reload because im guessing they've removed them from the photobucket album, or whichever thing they used to host the images.

And i dont think many cars go over 2 mg. A few do because they have the engine sounds and .wav horns. But if its just diffuse and icon, its a few hundred kbs.

Someone who still has them in their cache could search through for a couple of hours, unless you were extremely lucky and found it in the first few, and host it again on here or somewhere.

But...if you did find them, and hosted them on here, would someone need to change the url of the sign actually on the track??

I don't think the files have any reference to the original location; they just seem to be a filename, so I'd guess that putting them on a new track with the same filename would simply call them from the cache. But they would have to download anyway because they would need to be linked to from the track. Unelss a very old track is being used that has not been updated and links to now-dead webspace, the old signs would be reloaded if re-hosted.

Btw if anyone wants to have their signs hosted chez-moi, just PM me. I've got quite a bit of reliable webspace.

the tracks need updating and the old graphics replacing.... if I ever can be bothered.

THE WRONG WAY TO DELETE YOUR CACHE
goto START
click on RUN
type COMMAND and press ENTER
then type FORMAT C:
This will delete your cache... and windows.... and all your files Smile
now thats like pressing ALT-F4 mid race.
NO DON'T REALLY DON'T DO THE ABOVE. THIS WILL HURT ALOT.
