So.........I thought,
My gfx card cooler was up the spout (broken) seems it was just bent from my brutal dismantling methods, but in my haste (panic) i ordered a new one.

Not too big i thought, Can`t be that BIG i thought and for £23 a bargain.
So it arrived in a 12" (30cm) square box. I decided to fit it today which proved to be the worst two and a half hours i`ve ever spent with my beloved pc!!
This is my baby, 8800GT 1GB. Unscathed by any game and destroyer of two PSU`s.
This is the cooler, to my shock 800 feet wide and 300 feet deep (exaggeration ), pic is against my 22" monitor (this thing is HUGE)
So i bit the bullet after 2 hours of worry and removed my stock cooler, The nvidia chip is really pretty with a lovely mirror finish. This is where the problems started. It says in the "instructions" and i quote.
"If an eraser is not rubbed on the memory chips, the heatsinks will not stick". WELL, after a full half of an eraser, The long heatsink still didn`t stick and is now wedged in place with rolled up cardboard .
This is a pic of "the beamoth" and the stock cooler.
And the side view. I had to move all my sata cables, two hdd`s and every cable near the gfx card just to fit it
So, all in all. A very harrowing experience and now i`m cacking myself that one of the other heasinks are going to drop off (frying my card). But, on the plus side; Card is fourteen degrees celcius cooler and the fans are running two thousand rpm slower. I do not recommend this route to anyone. _________________ Never underestimate the power of stupidity. |
