After Indianapolis a couple of years ago, the sole remaining North American GP fixture is dropping from the 2009 calendar. The Montreal meeting, popular with teams and sponsors, has provided some great thrills over the years and the name of Gilles Villeneuve has been kept alive as befits one of Canada's greatest sporting legends.
No reason was given for the omission by the FIA but it represents a defeat in their attempts to wean the Septics off NASCAR etc. Also a factor was the disappointing performance of the ironically-named American F1 driver Scott Speed. The Turkish GP will be moved from August to fill the 3 1/2 week gap between Monaco and the Great Britain GP. Abu Dhabi makes its debut as the Championship finale on Nov 15th.
Herr Moseley of the FIA will be negotiating with team bosses to substantially reduce the costs of the Championship from 2010 and teams will be allowed to eqalise engine performance for 2009 pending the costs revision. (!!!!! Shocked ).
Meanwhile Ferrari will revert to 'lollipop' pit signals after the farce of the traffic light system which cost Massa points in Singapore.

2009 Calendar
Mar 29 Australia (Melbourne)
Apr 5 Malaysia (Sepang)
Apr 19 Bahrain
May 10 Spain (Barcelona)
May 24 Monaco
Jun 7 Turkey (Istanbul)
Jun 21 GB (Silverstone)
Jun 28 France (Magny-Cours)
Jul 12 Germany (Hockenheim)
Jul 26 Hungary (Budapest)
Aug 23 Europe (Valencia)
Aug 30 Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps)
Sep 13 Italy (Monza)
Sep 27 Singapore
Oct 11 Japan (Suzuka)
Oct 18 China (Shanghai)
Nov 1 Brazil (Interlagos)
Nov 15 Abu Dhabi

Canada certainly was a track with a great layout and I do think the country has a large following (although only one driver in the past 20 years as far as I can remember). But don't forget that this year the track did start to disintegrate and they had to put down quick drying glue at the hairpin. I wouldn't be surprised if it was off the calendar for a year to fix this plus facilities and it'll be back, like what happened to Spa.

(Or did you mean Rest in Pieces?)

Yeah they may have loads of fans, a decent circuit that is loved by real F1 fans but what they don't have is loads of Middle Eastern oil money to line Billionaire Bernies nest with, that odious little troll will kill F1 mark my words, mark them I tell you.
